What the Commission is empowered to do, and the limits of those powers.
Set out the powers conferred on the Commission by its enabling Law, and how those powers are exercised.
The sequence
What the Commission does with a complaint, from the day it arrives to the day its outcome is published.
1 Step 1 of 8
Complaints against public bodies and officers are received in writing, by telephone, in person at any office, and confidentially without a name. Every one is written down and given a reference.
Make a complaint2 Step 2 of 8
Each complaint is assessed against the enabling Law: whether the matter falls to the Commission, what is already established, and what must be found out.
What we can look into3 Step 3 of 8
The Commission examines records, requires the production of documents, and takes evidence from those concerned. Findings rest on evidence, not on assertion.
4 Step 4 of 8
Where a matter can be settled between a citizen and a public body, it is. Where it cannot, the Commission directs a remedy or refers the case onward.
5 Step 5 of 8
Where the evidence discloses an offence, the Commission prepares the case and pursues prosecution through the appropriate authority. An investigation that ends in a report and nothing else deters no one.
6 Step 6 of 8
Public money and property found to have been diverted are traced and their recovery pursued, so that what was taken is returned to the people of Taraba State rather than merely recorded as lost.
What has been recovered7 Step 7 of 8
Outcomes are published. The Commission accounts for what it received, what it resolved, and how long it took — including where it fell short.
Complaint statistics8 Step 8 of 8
The Commission studies how public bodies work, recommends changes that close the openings corruption depends on, and explains to citizens how and where to report.
